Successful Blood Track - VGP

Gerda vom Elderbach

“Gerdy”  received a score of 70 in the VJP, and a score of 223 in the 2004 Armbruster (HZP + Hare Track + combined Breed Show scores) for a 7th place finish).  She scored a 314 Prize I (TF) in the VGP, and was awarded the Armbruster Halt Award at that test.  Her VGP score was one of the highest in the country in 2005.  We also brought back the Youman’s Trophy which is awarded to the top scoring dog at that test.  This award is a coveted addition to the mantle of our fireplace.

Gerda vom Elderbach is the daughter of Judy vom Oechtringer-Forst: 175690, 49396, Brsch, HD-Frei, ZR 060/98, SG/G, VJP 74, HZP 178, Hegewald 227 (7th place finish), VGP Pz 1 287, TF.

Gerdy’s father is Olf di Costa Rubea: LO1 00/4477, Brsch, HD-Frei, ZR16/99, SG/V, HZP Hegewald 227,  VGP 331 PZ 1, TF Bringsel.  Olf was judged to be the best looking dog at the Hegewald.  He has proven himself as a stud and has sired several talented litters, including Nick from Oechtringer-Forst, father of Brisko v. Erthal (2nd place Hegewald, 2004). Click HERE to see Gerda’s ahnentafel/pedigree)

Gerdy’s weight is approximately 60 pounds.  She is 61cm x 61cm in size and has received a breed show score of 11 in coat and 11 in conformation (11/11).  Gerdy was born March 1, 2003.  She has a medium length coat with good undercoat and very stiff outer coat.  Her build is muscular and robust.  She is HD-Free and has been found to be clear of vom Willebrand bleeding disorder.

Gerdy is a high drive dog in the field and water, with an extremely high work ethic.  She is very determined to find birds, both before and after the shot.  She is a joy to hunt behind, and is the kind of dog that truly makes hunting fun.

Gerdy is a reliable pointer.  Her search is very animated with a range well suited for the foot hunter.  In open cover she moves out well, yet within a very comfortable range. In thicker cover she works well in sight of the handler.

She has been a very easy dog to train as a puppy, and in to adulthood.  She is very affectionate and is rewarded by attention and contact.  She is very focused on the handler and on the task.  This is part of what makes her so trainable and so successful as a utility dog. She spends much of her time  in the house, coming in before we leave for work, and again after we return from work.  She often goes  to an outside kennel at bedtime and sleeps outside at night.

We have two young boys who poke her, climb on her, and dig in her food while she eats.  She is absolutely non-aggressive with people and dogs.  With puppies, she is the definition of patience.  I have yet to see her get angry or snap as the result of continual puppy annoyances.  Click HERE to see more photos.
