About Drahthaars |
|
There were several factors that attracted me to this breed approximately 8 years ago. Of these the most important was that of quality control. I found it very reassuring to know that each drahthaar puppy produced in this breeding organization comes from parents that were evaluated with regards to their hunting abilities, coat, conformation, hips, as well as other requirements. Each dog used in the breeding program was found to meet or exceed a certain high standard established many years ago. Unlike other breeds which have fractured into quality classifications including “show dogs”, “pets”, “field trial wash-outs”, and others, the drahthaar remains a dog for hunters only. You can rest assured that each and every dog that stands behind your drahthaar puppy in his pedigree (ahnentafel) is a hunter…..this is true no matter where you buy your puppy. This was a reassuring thought to me when I was researching the purchase of my first puppy, and I hope it will be for you as well. With the drahthaar, form follows function. Attention is paid to the coat and conformation of the Drahthaar as it applies to the dog’s performance in the field. This means that you won’t see our dog’s bred for dog shows and you wont find the breed being the victim of current breeding fads like long under hair, or white color. This means a lot to me, and I hope you feel the same. Here’s a link to the VDD-GNA website where you will find an excellent essay on the breed. Click Here…. |
